Hi! Here’s some pithy lines and conversations, both fictional and nonfictional…

It’s foolish to fear nothing; it’s foolish to fear everything.

“Everything can be disagreed with.”
“I don’t know if that’s true.”

“I can’t do this, it’s too much. I can’t do it on my own.”

“Look down. Whose feet are these?”

“There are no feet.”

“Am I talking to a corpse? You borrowed those words. That isn’t your insight, your wisdom.”

“But I’ve experience selflessness.”

“It doesn’t matter because you learned about it beforehand. That foreknowledge poisoned the well, even calm waters won’t filter it out. Seeing through everything you’ve been taught by Buddhist books and teachers, tell me, ‘Whose feet are these?'”

“Mine. They’re my feet.”

“Those are the only feet that can walk the Path. They’re the only feet that have ever walked the Path. You can’t use my feet or the Buddha’s feet. You can’t even walk in his footsteps because they’ve been covered up by time. All the footprints you see were left by his followers, so you can’t rely on Siddhartha. The only Buddha you can rely on is yourself.”

“But it’s still hard.”

“Of course it is. You just discovered the First Noble Truth. You did this on your own.”

FBer: “What is religion, really?”

John: “What is, ‘What is?'” Same answer to both questions, I’d say.”

FBer: “Yes… Exactly.”

John: itsallinthemind

On interfaith dialogue:

“The real dialogue isn’t verbal or philosophical; it’s action-based. Kindness, generosity, patience, understanding… that’s the dialogue that matters. Everyone can engage in that dialogue, regardless of what their chosen paradigms are.”
